Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1) easily enough money to Billy Lyell in Culiacan, Mexico outperformed last night. Junior has made a fairly typical performance, with the ability and flashes substance mixed with periods of inactivity, but overall it was too big and too good for Lyell. He earned the unanimous decision.
Lyell (22-9-0) defeats as a who's who read the middleweight division and junior middleweight, he was never in the fight. The Ohioan, former CCM victims Jr. and John Duddy recent retirees shocked in 2009 and again in the right hand of the Mexican Hat.
Junior is really huge for an average weight (and a Mexican, for that matter), and looked like he was in a different weight class. Lyell, the most important attribute is his toughness, his face was red as a tomato from the famous Sinaloa has until the end of the first round. JCC Jr. demonstrated against both his good genetics and lack of fitness look completely unmarked but completely out of steam by the end of the fight.
The fight has been much less fun than the Mexican band plays in Guadalajara bar I saw on Pink Floyd and covered the Doors' sounds pretty amazing in Spanglish. Far from the madness JCC Jr. as I expected the people in the bar seemed disinterested.
Most of them said they were there to watch a football match between teams of GDL and Mexico, and they do not care about the fight. They were also fairly neutral on the whole problem Jr. GBA laziness. Unlike race that inspired football game shouting "Fuck your father" and "What a fag!" And it was only the ladies.
Junior has already been set for some big fights and I do not think this victory has created. He looked good at times, especially in the timing of his right hand, but in turn melted usual late and appears to hang, waiting for the reception, after punching. Moreover, he did not use the Joint Appeals Board, he demonstrated against Duddy as he could or should.
Overall it was a little disappointing night. It turns out that in Mexico (at least in downtown GDL) is not the paradise I dreamed boxes. I listen to that was another battle between these two guys in this country rather disappointing.
